If
anyone knows about malts and milkshakes, it’s Autumn Martin, who
received Edmonds Community College’s 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Now
you can learn a few of Martin’s secrets in a sweet collection of 60
recipes dishing up comforting
dessert drinks that put a new spin on an old-fashioned treat.
Martin’s
first book, “Malts and Milkshakes,” will be published April 9.
Two days
before that, though, you can pick up a copy at Martin’s popular Hot Cakes shop
in Ballard at a book-release celebration.

Martin
studied culinary arts at Edmonds CC and went on to a career in the
field in 2002.
At Edmonds CC, Martin earned a Foundation scholarship
and, as president of the college’s Chef’s Club, cooked for crowds at big
events.
